The Mariners Huntington Beach Intern Program is designed to provide you with practical ministry experience, an opportunity to stretch and grow your faith, and develop your leadership skills. You will work alongside our team in a hands-on role within our church.

JHM – Junior High Ministry (JHM) interns will participate in planning and  leading our weekly JHM experience. Additionally, they will help plan and prepare our monthly junior high event and Winter Camp. Specific tasks could include volunteer development/follow-up, some administrative tasks, helping coordinate weekly programming and special event programming, leading a small group and more.

HSM – High School Ministry (HSM) interns will participate in planning and leading our weekly HSM experience. Additionally, they will help plan and prepare our monthly high school event and Winter Camp. Specific tasks could include volunteer development/follow-up, some administrative tasks, helping coordinate weekly programming and special event programming, leading a small group and more.

Worship - The Student Ministries (SM) Worship intern will actively participate in building a SM-worship team from the ground up. As part of the SM-team he/she will implement the vision and values for worship in SM and work directly with the Worship Pastor to build a worship culture in Student Ministries.

Children’s Ministry interns will enable the Children’s Department to grow to the next level, bring new thoughts and ideas to the table and provide support for the current staff. Specific tasks could include volunteer development/follow-up, administrative tasks, helping plan and coordinate weekly programming, helping coordinate special events, whole group teaching and more.

Interns will be exposed to scheduling and administrative support to the Lead Pastor. In addition, they would learn accounting, office management, HR, staff development and special event planning. This intern would support our Lead Pastor, his Executive Assistant, and the staff and church as a whole.

An Outreach intern will get to experience both local and global Outreach opportunities, working alongside the Outreach Pastor and Local Engagement Coordinator. A lot of the responsibilities would be focused on working with at-risk youth and families locally, and globally with our ministry partners in Mexico and Haiti. Specific tasks could include helping oversee after-school programs, volunteer development/follow-up, some administrative tasks, helping coordinate global faith adventures, and more. They will have the opportunity to try out different areas of Outreach, and experience the wide range of ways our church serves and makes a difference in the local community and around the world.

An intern in the tech department would be able to help in the following areas: setting up/maintaining tech needs for the children’s room and student center, helping with video/lighting/switcher/slides/audio on Sundays, editing/uploading weekend messages, and preparing the stage on Thursdays for Sunday services.

An intern in Weekend Experience would work alongside the Worship Pastor, Weekend Experience Director and Tech Director to create and execute the Sunday service experience and other special events. They will work alongside the team to learn the many different roles in production, helping to train production volunteers, create ways to honor the volunteers, help with creative and more. The Weekend Experience Intern would also help with administrative tasks including scheduling volunteers and reconciling accounting statements.

and approximately 30% of their time participating in activities related to the Intern Program.

"I have loved seeing our interns be actual team members with full responsibilities. This has given them great ownership and is beneficial for both the church and the individual."

Dominik Michalzik
Worship Pastor

"Weekly intern meetings gives them a “home base” and team to go back to, regardless of which department they’re in. I think our staff has done a great job treating the interns just like anyone else on the team, so maintaining that culture will be important."

Monica Bannister

" I like how we’ve been able to make the interns feel like they are a part of the team. They’re not here for labor and to make our lives easier, they’re here to better the team. I believe that can empower and inspire them to use their skills and gifts."

Jose Moreno-Rivas
Local Engagement Coordinator/Tech Director

"I like to work with people, who have the same goal, to bring other people to know Jesus (especially kids). Being an intern has been a life changing experience. It has enabled me to grow in my faith by exposing me to church in a different culture. I was given the opportunity to not only learn how to do weekend ministry but to oversee the Children’s Ministry Events Team and have gained work experience in Event Planning. I am a better planner, organizer and employee because of my experience at Mariners Church."

Debi Christen
Global Intern from Switzerland

"I loved being an intern at Mariners HB! I connected with all the staff the first week because of their welcoming, genuine, sweet personalities. This experience working at a church has been invaluable because of growing in my personal walk with Christ, meeting new people, and ultimately building God's Kingdom."

Arin Mearig
Student Ministries Intern
